Cordyline australis, commonly known as the Cabbage Palm or Torbay Palm, is a striking evergreen architectural tree valued for its bold, tropical appearance and strong vertical form. Ideal for contemporary, Mediterranean, coastal, and exotic-style gardens, Cordyline australis produces long, sword-shaped foliage held in dramatic crowns above a sturdy trunk, creating a highly decorative focal point throughout the year. As the tree matures, it develops branching heads and a distinctive sculptural shape that adds height, structure, and texture to the landscape. Cordyline australis is particularly well suited to patios, borders, courtyard gardens, and container planting, where its evergreen foliage provides year-round interest and an architectural presence. Mature specimens may also produce large panicles of small, fragrant white flowers in summer, followed by ornamental berries. Hardy and relatively low maintenance once established, Cordyline australis thrives in sunny, sheltered positions and suits a wide range of modern and traditional planting schemes.
