Pinus pinea, commonly known as the Stone Pine
pinus pinea, commonly known as the Stone Pine or Umbrella Pine, is a striking evergreen conifer that combines ornamental presence with long-lasting landscape value. With its distinctive umbrella-shaped canopy and graceful, long needle foliage, this tree provides year-round structure and interest in large gardens, parks or Mediterranean-inspired settings. Its architectural form creates natural screening or a focal point, while mature specimens produce large cones containing edible pine nuts, making the Stone Pine both beautiful and productive. Perfect for planting as a specimen tree or as part of a structural planting scheme, Pinus pinea thrives in well-drained sites with full sun exposure.
