Support is crucial for the proper growth of your newly planted pleached trees, whether they are semi-mature or fully mature. Strong winds pose a risk of uprooting the tall trees and damaging their developing roots. To prevent this, it is essential to provide support using the following method:

  1. Begin by preparing two timber posts for each line of up to five trees. Each post should be firmly planted in the ground, with one end concreted using quick-setting concrete. A depth of 60cm is recommended.

  2. Prior to installing the posts, drill holes at the top and bottom of the desired frame height. These holes will serve as anchor points for two lengths of sturdy wire, resembling a double washing line.

  3. Thread the wire through the holes, ensuring it runs behind the frames of the trees. The wire should extend from one timber post to the other.

  4. Secure the wire to the timber posts using metal wire rope clamps. Place one clamp at each end of the wire line, tightly fastening it to the posts.

  5. Attach the frames of the trees to the wires using heavy-duty cable ties. This will prevent any movement or swaying, ensuring the trees remain straight as they establish themselves.

By implementing this support system, not only will you safeguard the integrity of the newly developing roots, but you will also maintain the aesthetic value of the pleached trees.

For each planting kit, you will require the following materials:

  • 1 timber post measuring twelve feet in height, featuring a pointed end.
  • 3 bags of postcrete (for concreting one end of each timber post).
  • 2 metal wire rope clamps (to secure the wire to the timber posts).
  • 1 heavy-duty cable tie (for attaching the frames to the wires).
  • 1 roll of strong wire (to create the support structure).

Please note that for a pleached tree, a minimum of two planting kits is recommended. However, if you have up to five trees, two kits will suffice. For six pleached trees, you will require three planting kits. After this, it is recommended to add a kit for every 5 trees.
