Portuguese Laurel is an excellent choice for creating an evergreen hedge or as a captivating specimen shrub. Its slender and elongated deep green leaves make a striking addition to any garden. Notably, the stems of this species display a distinctive red color, making it easily identifiable. Prunus lusitanica 'Angustifolia' is a unique Cherry species that, when pruned instead of sheared, can produce fragrant white flowers.
How many plants should you plant? For optimal results, we recommend planting 3 plants per meter. However, if you opt for the 125cm height or larger, it is advisable to reduce the planting density to 2 plants per meter.
How fast do they grow? Portuguese Laurel is known for its fast growth rate. To maintain a well-groomed hedge, we recommend trimming it twice a year, with a maximum of three cuts.
Hardiness? These plants are highly resilient and can withstand frost, including the coldest frosts.
Soil type? Portuguese Laurel thrives in lightly acidic soil, similar to many other plants. When planting, incorporating some multi-purpose compost can help establish a healthy hedge.
